Max Wöber, a center back for Leeds United, has impressed during his brief stay with Borussia Monchengladbach to the point where his loan team may be considering making the arrangement permanent in 2024.
It’s difficult to go even a week without a transfer update from the players Leeds has out on loan, but it’s important to keep track since Daniel Farke’s transfer budget will benefit if Leeds can reach the proper deals.
Given how Max Wöber made a U-turn to join the Bundesliga, he is one of few players that few people envision returning to Leeds.
Is he going to get a permanent move?
German outlet Rheinische Post have banged the drum again about Max Wöber’s performances in a Monchengladbach shirt, with the player demonstrating a variety of qualities in the heart of defence so far.
It hasn’t resulted in him stemming the flow of goals that his side have conceded, but the report claims that his club are already hoping that Leeds don’t get promoted so that they can secure a cut-price deal to sign him.
He has filled an “important gap” so far for his current team, with his leadership and overall quality pointed out as major strengths that Monchengladbach hope they can count on beyond his loan expiring in the summer of 2024.
Norwich City v Leeds United predictions
Leeds must be delighted?
The Austrian is not likely to be welcome back at Elland Road, after promising his loyalty to Farke in the summer only to swiftly jump ship to the Bundesliga.
A £10million outlay, Wöber is still contracted to 2027 and will command a similar fee in the summer if Leeds are as keen to offload as the fans are.
Failure to secure promotion might prove to add complications for it, with Monchengladbach sniffing a bargain here, but knowing he has a willing buyer already there should be great news for Leeds.
In the meantime at Leeds, Joe Rodon is someone who we must be looking to make a permanent signing, and Wöber’s exit could fund it.
Knowing we’re able to wash our hands of him quite easily next summer should be great news.
