CONTRACT NEWS | Wrexham AFC take option to extend Youngster of the Season’s current deal.

Sam Dalby, a striker for Wrexham AFC, has had his contract extended by the club for an additional season.

The 23-year-old, who was selected as our 2022–2023 Young Player of the Season, is now under contract through the end of the 2024–2025 season.

Since arriving in the summer of 2022, Dalby has scored nine goals and collected a number of noteworthy assists, including setting up Jordan Davies’ dramatic winning goal against Salford on Saturday.

I’m pretty excited,” he added in reference to his new deal. I adore being here. Everyone was so welcoming, so I have enjoyed it from the beginning. We are undoubtedly creating something significant here, therefore it is an honor to be a part of it.

“We had a great season last year, and we’re building on it already, and I’m just looking forward to the rest of the season.”

Dalby arrived on the eve of last season from Southend United, and scored his first goal in the 6-0 win at home to Torquay United the following month.

It was at Southend he had made his senior breakthrough, having previously spent time as a young player with Leyton Orient, Leeds United and Watford.

Though often used as a substitute at the start of his Wrexham career, he forced his way into the starting line-up with a number of key performances after the turn of the year.

This included scoring the opening goal in the FA Cup win away to EFL Championship side Coventry City and the dramatic stoppage-time winner away to Aldershot Town.

He started five of the final seven games of the campaign, to help Wrexham over the line in the title race and has made a further 16 appearances so far this season.

On extending the striker’s stay in North Wales, manager Phil Parkinson said: “We were always going to extend Sam’s contract because he is a good young striker who is only going to get better.

“He’s got a lot of potential, and we are looking forward to continue working with him.”
