Latest Leicester City news as defender made his first Championship appearance of the season in 2-0 win over Stoke City before international break.
Australian international and former Leicester City goalkeeper Mark Schwarzer expressed his amazement at Harry Souttar’s lack of playing time this year.
In the Carabao Cup defeat to Liverpool at the end of the previous month, the center-back made his first start of the year. Before the break, he then played his first Championship game of the season against his old team, Stoke City.
Souttar had missed the previous seven Championship matchday lineups before that. He was rumored to be moving to Rangers in the summer, where he would have joined his brother, John, but the move never happened, and he stayed at the King Power Stadium.
Despite his lack of game time, the centre-back has been a first-choice pick for Australia during both of the season’s international games. He played the full 90 minutes in the clash against England at Wembley Stadium and claimed a goal in Sunday’s 2-0 win over New Zealand.
Australia are preparing for the Asian Cup in January. Ahead of that tournament, Schwarzer revealed his surprise at Souttar not being a regular for City this season, and the fact he didn’t move on in the summer.
“Surely it’s going to be a big concern. I mean, Harry’s certain not getting minutes for Leicester,” he told The Optus Sport Football Podcast . “I can’t understand how he’s not in that Leicester City starting 11. And then, secondly, I can’t believe he hasn’t found another club.
“That someone else hasn’t come in for him and gone, ‘You know what? The way he played at that World Cup, we’ve got to snap him up straight away’. So that does surprise me.”
Souttar has now returned to City as he prepares for a return to Championship action. Enzo Maresca’s men travel to South Wales to take on Swansea City on Saturday as they look to increase their lead at the top of the Championship.
