Jamie Carragher explains Steve Cooper friendship as Nottingham Forest boundary set
Latest Nottingham Forest news as Jamie Carragher details his friendship with Reds head coach Steve Cooper stemming from Liverpool connection
Former Liverpool and England defender Jamie Carragher has revealed that he is “close” to Nottingham Forest head coach Steve Cooper.
The pair have known each other for a few years, primarily because Cooper coached Carragher’s son James during his time in the academy at Liverpool. The pair have maintained contact since then, and it comes in handy for Carragher and his punditry work.
Carragher speaks to Cooper “now and again”, and explains the conversations he has with the Forest boss if the Reds are due to appear on Monday Night Football. The pair have also established a boundary that they do not cross when it comes to talking about football.
Carragher told the Covering Liverpool podcast: “I’m close with a couple of managers, like Steve Cooper at Forest, but that’s just because he coached James at Liverpool so I can’t then turn around and go: ‘Oh, I’m not speaking to you’.
“I speak to him now and again, and if Forest are on Monday Night Football I might try and get hold of him. Not for his team selection, I’m not interested in that, to be honest, but more to try and get a general feel, what’s the feel around the place going into the game.
“Sometimes there will be a new signing that I just want to discuss with him ahead of the show but I’d never ask for his team.”
