When assessing his defensive teammates at Millwall, Jake Cooper comments on Ryan Leonard’s injury and recognizes ‘role model’ Wes Harding as being “a bit of a miss.”
Due to injuries, Gary Rowett has been unable to field a consistent defense for weeks.
JAKE COOPER acknowledges that the loss of Ryan Leonard will be “a bit of a miss” as another Millwall defender suffered an injury.
After developing a knee ailment that will keep him out for a few weeks, including Saturday’s game against Preston North End, Leonard has joined Shaun Hutchinson on the injured list.
The Lions have been dealt a devastating blow after Leonard had a fantastic start to the season, excelling at playing in the back three and carrying the ball forward.
Cooper, who has often played alongside the 31-year-old in defence, says he will miss his teammate who he rates very highly.
The centre-back told NewsAtDen: “Lenny’s been brilliant. He’s been a great addition coming in at the start of the season. He had a few injuries last year so we missed him so it was great to have him back and playing really well. His physicality is right at the top in terms of players in the Championship, he’s probably up there with the best players with his speed and strength and endurance.
“It will be a bit of a miss. Hopefully it won’t be for too long and we can get him back playing the way he’s been playing at the start of the season.”
Positively, Wes Harding has adapted swiftly since earning a spot in the starting lineup.
Cooper lavished accolades on his teammate for his skills both on and off the field.
Wes waited his turn, but he has been a terrific addition in terms of his philosophy for the youngsters, the man remarked. He’s one of the nicest people you’ll ever meet and a fantastic role model for some of the younger boys that are coming through.
