Elite mindset: Celtic is keeping an eye on a highly decorated player with “hunger for success”

Celtic boss Brendan Rodgers looks set to raid the January transfer market.

A player who has grown frustrated with his circumstances at his current employers is reportedly being watched by Celtic ahead of the January transfer window.

Updates on Celtic: Johnston, McDonald, and McGregor

As the Republic of Ireland defeated Gibraltar on Monday night in the EURO 2024 qualifying match, Celtic’s misunderstood Mikey Johnston had a profitable evening for his country. In the 28th minute, he headed in a cross at the second attempt to put the Republic of Ireland ahead. Johnston, 24, has yet to appear for the Hoops this season, but he reminded Brendan Rodgers of his ability at the right time. After struggling with injuries, Johnston has now made it clear that he wants to make the Celtic team.

He told the Irish Independent: “I am just working my way behind the scenes to try and get my opportunity. The manager (Rodgers) has got tough decisions to make; he’s got wingers he’s brought in for a few million and it’s up to me to get into the team. I’d imagine he’d take a bit of interest. He texted me before the game, so I think he’s keeping tabs on it.”

Scott McDonald has delivered a Celtic transfer verdict on PLZ Soccer, detailing that he would like to see his old club bring in another striker to compete with Kyogo Furuhashi for a starting place at the Scottish Premiership champions.

Former Australia forward McDonald told the outlet: “What I would say is that he probably needs some more support. I think it’s somewhere Celtic could look at in the window, come January, to bring in another striker in to help him by supporting him with the goals.”

The Celtic captain Callum McGregor has received praise for his professional accomplishments and his association with upholding a winning culture both at the club level and on the international scene, according to his former midfield partner Scott Brown, who told The Herald: “He’s got a lot more left in him. It will depend on Callum and how his body is, but the young man takes care of himself and is a top pro. He’s constantly thinking about the future and what he can do to grow better, and I believe that’s how you should act right now as well.

Celtic transfer news – Andriy Lunin

According to a Celtic transfer update from The Daily Record, Real Madrid goalkeeper Andriy Lunin is a target for the Hoops as they look to find a long-term successor to former England international Joe Hart.

The report states that Lunin is one of several players who Celtic chiefs are constantly analysing as Rodgers looks to add another talented shot-stopper to his ranks. Celtic are believed to have been interested in the Ukraine international during the summer transfer window; however, La Liga giants Real Madrid were reluctant to part ways with the 24-year-old.

However, following his transfer from Chelsea, Carlo Ancelotti has chosen Kepa Arrizabalaga to play in goal this season. Lunin, who won the Champions League, has played 19 times for Real Madrid overall and has had five clean sheets (Lunin statistics – Transfermarkt).

Lunin, who has medals from the Copa del Rey, La Liga, Super Cup, and Club World Cup in addition to his UCL victory, has been characterized as having a “hunger for success” by Real Madrid president Florentino Perez. Lunin appears to fit the mold of a player that Celtic manager Rodgers would want in Parkhead as he seeks to win the Scottish Premiership title in 2023–24.
