Encouraging West Brom Takeover News Emerges With Latest Update As Prize Tag Announced
Encouraging West Brom takeover news emerges with latest update
Lewis Cox has provided fans with an update on the ongoing takeover talks at West Brom, sharing that the club are confident a deal will be made, and that Mark Miles’ comments are an encouraging sign.
The Express & Star journalist claimed that, while there are no guarantees around news of this type, statements coming out of the club should be taken positively with talks still progressing.
He also suggested the timing of the takeover could be important, with a financial line in the sand next summer as several experienced Baggies players are set to see their contracts expire as things stand.
Speaking to the Express & Star [15 October], Cox said “It’s encouraging to have a time scale, isn’t it? That’s not to say that’s how it’s going to go, but that’s the plan.
“I always think when updates like this in a public forum, I think for the club and senior members to come out and say that, you can sort of read into that and read some confidence into that, otherwise they’d be a little bit reluctant to make statements like that.
“Obviously Lai is only going to accept what he deems as acceptable and until that is forthcoming then we may have to wait, but it sounds like some confidence when it comes to the time scale.
“May is in, what, seven months time? Interesting times between now and then, not least the January transfer window. The time scale is an interesting one because it also fits in with the end of next season when a lot of senior and long-serving Albion players are out of contract, so there’s a bit of a line in the sand financially there as well.”
Slowly but surely
There is no doubt the time between now and the potential takeover being completed will see plenty of twists, turns and bumps in the road, but confidence can be taken from how openly Mark Miles has spoken about the news so far.
It has been a troubling spell for the Baggies under the current part-ownership of Guochuan Lai, with loan repayments being missed, no funding being put into the club, and threats of fire sales to help balance the books financially due to a lack of investment.
Now, though, there finally appears to be a light at the end of the tunnel with regard to the ownership situation at The Hawthorns, and fans can begin to look forward to a brighter future.
It must be stressed, that it’s important not to get ahead of the curve when it comes to the potential takeover, with talks still ongoing, but the increasing confidence around the club suggests there is positivity.
In other West Brom news, the club tried to sign an ex-Premier League midfielder in the summer.
