In the PIF era, Newcastle United has found a gold mine in the transfer market.
It’s safe to conclude that, on the whole, almost every acquisition the club has made since the takeover in October 2021 has paid off.
Bruno Guimaraes stands out among the many names that deserve praise.
He joined the club for £40 million from Lyon in January 2022 and has since been recognized as one of the Premier League’s most valued players, earning a new deal.
Now, the Brazil star has received even more acclaim.
Bruno Guimaraes now ranked among the top 20 players in world football
Indeed, 90 Min have ranked the top 20 players in world football for this season.
They list Guimaraes as the 18th best player on the planet, which really is saying something. In fact there are only seven Premier League stars ranked higher than him, which puts into context just what a good signing he’s been for Newcastle.
Let’s enjoy Guimaraes while we have him
Though the 25-year-old recently signed a new contract, the agreement is believed to have a release clause in it, albeit the conditions of it are rather murky.
Such is the quality of the player, Real Madrid are credited with a long-standing interest, while Liverpool and Chelsea have also been linked.
Clearly, there is little reason to leave Newcastle right now. Since Guimaraes walked through the door, it has been a story of rapid success, after all.
Still, it would perhaps be too much to expect him to stay forever, should teams like Madrid – who have tended to always sign the best players in the world – be interested.
Newcastle supporters should enjoy Guimaraes while he’s here, rather than worrying about the long-term future. What he’s doing in the present is more than good enough.
