Reading youngster Nelson Abbey made his England Under-20 debut in a 2-0 defeat to Romania on Thursday.
The 20-year-old, who has been a member of the team since he was eight years old, has established himself as a regular under Ruben Selles, appearing more than ten times this campaign and even donning the captain’s armband in Andy Yiadom’s absence.
Abbey played the final 30 minutes in Bucharest after being called up to replace the injured Reuell Walters.
For their match on Tuesday against Portugal in Milton Keynes, he will stay with the team.
Taking to social media after the game, he labelled it ‘an honour’ to represent the Young Lions, having earned three caps at Under-17 level in 2020.
He joins the likes of Charlie Savage, Ben Elliott and Jeriel Dorsett on international duty.
