The French champions left St James’ Park stunned last Wednesday night as goals from Miguel Almiron, Dan Burn, Sean Longstaff and Fabian Schar inflicted their heaviest group stage defeat since losing 3-0 to Chelsea in September 2004.

Meanwhile, it was the Magpies’ biggest win in the competition having just returned following a 20-year absence. Eddie Howe’s men sit top of Group F after gaining a point in their opener away to AC Milan at the San Siro.

According to French publication Le Parisian, Al-Khelaifi was asked about PSG’s loss at the weekend’s Qatar Grand Prix and said: “What a game? I don’t know what you’re talking about.”

He continued: “This summer, the club had seen considerable positive changes, bigger than anyone had imagined. And that building new foundations takes time, determination, patience, and perseverance. We must not overreact.”

Luis Enrique’s side bounced back at the week by beating Rennes 3-1 via goals from Vitinha, Achraf Hakimi and Randal Kolo Muani.
