Huddersfield Town considering a move for an international free agent star
After being released by Tottenham Hotspur in the summer, Sierre Leone international Kallum Cesay has reportedly being targeted by Huddersfield Town as a potential signing.
Cesay is a versatile player who can play as a fullback, a winger, or even in midfield. He recently participated in trials with the German team Werder Bremen, where he pleased Clemens Fritz, the director of football.
Speaking to the media after Cesay’s trial, Fritz said [quotes via Tribal Football]:
“He did well – both athletically and personally. It’s not easy to get into a solid team as a young player. He also knew that he was being watched closely. He made an open impression.
“We will talk to his agent but for now, no final decision has been made about him.”
In the end, Cesay never made the jump to Germany. However, Yorkshire Live are reporting that Championship side Huddersfield Town are looking to permanently sign the 21-year-old.
The outlet have revealed that Cesay played for the Terriers in the Central League Cup last night against Rotherham United, a game Huddersfield won 5-1 at the Millers Oils High Performance Complex.
The ex-Spurs academy star started for the Yorkshire club in midfield before parting in the second half. Yorkshire Live have reported that Cesay impressed in the opening 45 minutes.
Huddersfield Town’s next game takes place in two weeks at the John Smith’s Stadium against relegation-threatened Queens Park Rangers in what is a massive fixture for both clubs. Cesay may be part of Darren Moore’s squad for this clash if a deal comes to fruition.
With this acquisition, Huddersfield Town truly can’t go wrong, especially considering Cesay is a free agent and the board will only be responsible for covering his salary.
Cesay, who is only 21 years old, has already made four appearances with the national team of Sierra Leone and scored two goals, one of which came from the penalty spot. Moore would be foolish to not approve of the transfer.
