Birmingham City appoints former Manchester United / England Famous player as new manager.

Latest Birmingham City news from BirminghamLive includes confirmation that Wayne Rooney is joining the club as manager.

Birmingham City have appointed Wayne Rooney as their new head coach

Following the firing of John Eustace, Birmingham City has named England and Manchester United great Wayne Rooney as their next manager.

Rooney has agreed to a three-and-a-half year contract and will now serve as Knighthead’s first managerial hire. After DC United placed ninth in the Eastern Conference over the weekend, the 37-year-old left the MLS team.

The announcement follows Eustace’s resignation immediately. Despite the squad winning twice last week to get into the Championship play-off spots, Blues’ owners let Eustace go.

Rooney had a successful playing career while playing for Manchester United and England. He still holds the record for most goals scored for United, although Harry Kane recently surpassed him in that category for England.

His first game in charge of Blues will come after the international break against Middlesbrough. Blues will then return to St Andrew’s on October 25 to face Hull City, who are managed by Rooney’s former Derby County assistant Liam Rosenior.

Rooney earned plaudits for the way he handled Derby’s dire situation in the 2021/22 season. The Rams were ultimately relegated, but they would have finished 17th in the Championship without a 21-point deduction.
