Numerous Albion players paid Chris Gordon, Dave Lewis, and Marcus Harrison a visit as they got ready to play for England in the 2023 FIPFA Powerchair Football World Cup.
Taylor Reynolds, Jed Wallace, Alex Palmer, Abi Loydon, and other Albion players paid a visit to the WBA Community Sports Hall to talk with the four about the upcoming competition and their individual sporting careers.
After discussing the World Cup and setting goals for the event, Jed, Alex, Abi, and Taylor hopped on some powerchairs and gave the sport a go, doing some fundamental drills while three of the nation’s top athletes looked on.
Chris, Dave and Marcus currently play for West Bromwich Albion PFC in the WFA National League Premiership Division, with Chris captaining the side to four league titles in the last five years, while Marcus has recently reached the milestone of 200 National League goals.
With further emphasis placed on coaching in recent years, Dave’s playing career has had a resurgence over the last term. This form saw Lewis return to the England squad after a five-year hiatus and, as a result of his performances, will now represent his country for the first time at a World Cup.
Hosted in Australia, the 2023 FIPFA Powerchair Football World Cup takes place from October 15 – October 20, 2023, at the Sydney Olympic Park’s Quaycentre, with ten nations involved in the competition.
As current European Champions, England have high hopes of winning the World Cup and the Three Lions will hope to kick off their campaign with a win when they face Argentina on Sunday, October 15, 2023.
