Huddersfield Town Plans And Priorities For International Break Revealed

Huddersfield Town Plans And Priorities For International Break Revealed
The Terriers have one particular area that clearly needs work after failing to impose themselves in the final third for much of the season under Neil Warnock and now Darren Moore
Darren Moore cannot wait to get on the training pitch with the majority of his Terriers squad over the two-week international break and finally get some uninterrupted sessions in with his new squad – and improving their attacking fortunes is top of his agenda.

The Huddersfield Town manager took charge of four games in his first 16 full days in charge of the club, severely limiting the amount of time he has been able to spend with them by the time recovery days, matchdays and pre-match travel has all been taken into consideration.

Moore is still yet to taste victory since arriving at the John Smith’s Stadium, however, with Saturday’s goalless draw against his former club Sheffield Wednesday the latest in a string of games in which his side have looked much too underwhelming in the final third – an issue that pre-dates his arrival but which is yet to improve under his watch.

The gaffer now wants to put that right, saying: “That’s the thing I’m looking at working on really. With these two weeks in front of us, it’s an opportunity for us to work. Other people can look at the two weeks at a time to get away and rest, and now I’m looking at it as an opportunity for us to work with a team.

“What I’m going to say is over the two weeks we’ve had four games, and so we’ve been pinching the players – but the players have been absolute diamonds, every single one of them, because everything we’ve asked them to do in small pockets [of time], they’ve been doing, but we get some chance now to really look get on the training run and get some work done.

“[We need to work on] when we do get into threatening areas, where we can be more of a threat, more punishing to the opposition, and show a little bit more understanding of the dynamics to our play really, which you only get on the training ground really. That’s the work that we’re looking forward to doing on these next couple of weeks.”

He added: “Looking back at the four games we’ve had, and then looking at the team and looking at the dynamics of this team, there’s lots of different dynamics to the team. So it’s been a learning process in terms of seeing players in different positions, seeing players that we can utilise for the continuity of the team.

“We saw that in their spells in games. Today playing Dell, Josh and Sorba as sort of like a front three, we went for the game today. As I said we got the ball forward into good position, but it just kind of petered out when we could have shown a little bit more impetus.

“I’ve made a pact with all the players in terms of them maxing out and that’s why I said at the start when I came here, I’m not going to put a ceiling on the players but what I’m asking them to do is to show that commitment and endeavour and that willingness to want to improve and to go forward. That’s essential for us because the position that we’re in, we want to move the club forward.

“There’s been some good solid blocks put in over these last couple of weeks given the time that we’ve had with the players themselves and the staff are just looking forward to getting on the training ground, really, and just working with them.

“That’s the crux of it all really, is just getting on the training ground and working and showing that level of improvement, that level of understanding, and getting to know the players.”
