‘Unnecessary’: Farke says he told £15m Leeds man to improve form and ‘body language’ in training

Daniel Farke has told his post-match press conference – as per Leeds Live – that he had a chat with Leeds United defender Joe Rodon before Wednesday night’s 1-0 win over QPR over his training level.

Rodon, 25, has been excellent for us since the defender joined the club on loan from Spurs. It sees him unite with Wales teammates Dan James and Ethan Ampadu, our second Spurs loanee with Djed Spence.

But after receiving a second yellow card against Hull, he was suspended for the 3-0 win over Watford. Liam Cooper retained his place in the side against Southampton but Rodon returned last night, vs QPR.

A solid display and another clean sheet. Farke says he spoke with the £15m Spurs signing before the game, stating that he had had a word about Rodon’s training level – which the German deems below par.

“I was pleased with him overall because he was involved in many good results and many clean sheets. Not each and every game before was spot on in every detail, yellow and red card was unnecessary.

“Also I had a chat with him because he can improve more on the training pitch. We spoke about this topic and he has delivered in the last days. It was the time to give him the next chance,” Farke continued.

“If you are on it in training, train proper and concentrate with good body language, then you always have good chances to deliver good performances. That’s what he did today, I am pretty pleased with him.”

It was a game that Leeds simply had to win. Against Southampton, the feeling was that it was just a bad day at the office and sometimes in the Championship, that happens. But it was key, we responded.

We did that, against struggling QPR. An early goal was key and that came in Crysencio Summerville’s ninth-minute strike. A goal or two more would have made it comfortable, but a win is a win at this level.
