Mansfield Town Looking To Extend Incredible Unbeaten Run As Coach Makes Some incredible Changes

Mansfield Town kept their staggering unbeaten league record after a goalless draw with Wrexham on Tuesday night. Nigel Clough, the Stags manager was content with the result, especially the way his side controlled large parts of the game with almost 60% possession.

Mansfield are in super form at the start of this campaign and are now 14 games unbeaten in total, something that the fans are enjoying, and the visit of high-profile Wrexham wasn’t missed as 8,612 packed into the One Call Stadium. Speaking after the game, Clough said;

“Fourteen games unbeaten now, that’s a big, big achievement. To control the game against such a good team was very encouraging going forward. I don’t think we could’ve done much more in our endeavours to try and get a goal. We hit both posts in the first half, created situations, but in terms of the general performance I thought it was magnificent tonight.”

The Stags aim to keep the run going this weekend with the visit of AFC Wimbledon. The Dons are second in the table and this will be a great test for both teams as League Two hits the quarter mark of games played in the season. Such is the anticipation of the fixture; Mansfield have announced that the game will be all-ticket for home fans with an additional 700 places being made available before Saturday.

On further reflection on the goalless draw, Clough said;

“The lads are disappointed down there (the dressing room). I just said to them: ‘I wouldn’t be too disappointed after the effort you put in tonight and the quality.’ The quality of the game was very high for League Two and some of our play was as well. All that matters now is that we get three points on Saturday, nothing else.”

Mansfield are now the only unbeaten team left in the division and, where it may be an extremely long shot to remain that way over 46 games, the longer the run continues, Clough’s men will be gaining extra confidence.

Wimbledon will be coming in hot having lost only once themselves, and the game on Saturday in front of another bumper crowd could well be the highlight of the EFL fixture list this weekend.
