Andy Halliday picks next Rangers manager preference as Kieran McKenna Ipswich success chosen as ideal Michael Beale replacement
The Hearts midfielder is an open Gers supporter and hopes to see one gaffer be given a chance
Andy Halliday has named Kieran McKenna of Ipswich Town as a manager he hopes to be seen linked with the vacant Rangers job.
The 37-year-old Tractor Boys boss has quickly developed himself a strong reputation as a manager in his own right following success and promotion from League One to the Championship in his first attempt. His team banged in more than 100 goals in that time and he has become a popular coach known for his fast-paced and attacking style.
It’s a brand of football that would suit the Ibrox club as they seek their own identity after Michael Beale was sacked and Halliday believes the style, coupled with a winning mentality, would be just what the doctor ordered in Glasgow.
With Ipswich impressing this season, too, in second spot in the division, Halliday hopes at the very least to see McKenna linked and potentially interviewed for the post. And the Hearts midfielder gave his take on current favourite Frank Lampard’s chances of landing the gig.
“I don’t think he [Lampard] has huge success as a manager, but it’s always a funny one because you are never guaranteed success by appointing a manager,” Halliday told Superscoreboard.
“Every single one is a risk, you can only tell if they are a success by the time they leave the club. Whoever it may be they will be fully backed by the supporters and the players and hopefully it’s a success. Always it’s fair to say some names are more exciting than others. One that has not been mentioned is Kieran McKenna, with the job he is doing at Ipswich this season. He’s another name I would like to see linked with the job.”
