Alan Shearer thinks £51m Potential star is a ‘game changer’ for new club after Newcastle United wise to sign him report claims

ALAN SHEARER THINKS FORMER NEWCASTLE TARGET IS A ‘GAME CHANGER’

Alan Shearer has praised Aston Villa ace Moussa Diaby as a ‘game changer’ after Newcastle United wanted him.

Moussa Diaby has been a game-changing signing for Aston Villa having joined from Bayer Leverkusen this summer.

That is according to pundit Alan Shearer, who has been speaking on The Rest is Football.

Villa were in blistering form on Saturday afternoon, destroying Brighton and Hove Albion 6-1 at Villa Park.

Ollie Watkins grabbed the headlines with a superb hat-trick but fellow attacker Diaby deserves some praise too.

Diaby joined Villa from Bayer Leverkusen over the summer as he made a £51million move to Birmingham.

Villa of course aren’t paying all of that in one go and plenty of the deal is made up in add-ons, but it currently looks like a snip.

The 24-year-old is making a huge impact for Villa and he helped destroy Brighton.

Diaby set up Watkins’ first goal before his shot was turned in for a Pervis Estupinan own goal.

Diaby has now been hailed by Alan Shearer, who loved his performance against the Seagulls.

Shearer suggested that Diaby has been a ‘game changer’ for Villa with his pace causing no end of problems for defenders.

“I do think that Diaby has been a game changer for them because of his pace up front, because of how they can sit back and soak up a bit of pressure but then, once they win that ball back, because of his pace and his ability to get in behind, then I think he’s been a game changer for them and he’s certainly helping Ollie Watkins be a better player,” said Shearer.

Newcastle United wanted to sign Diaby
There’s a certain irony here as Shearer could have been talking about Diaby as a Newcastle United player.

Shearer’s beloved Magpies were heavily linked with a move to sign Diaby.

Bild noted in July that Newcastle were keen to bring Diaby to St James’ Park, but the Daily Mail suggested that Newcastle had backed away from Diaby and ultimately ended up focusing on Harvey Barnes instead.

Barnes added to the homegrown numbers at Newcastle but now finds himself out injured.

It’s easy to imagine how Diaby could have caused absolute mayhem in this Newcastle side but Shearer will have to admire him from afar rather than support him in the famous black and white stripes.
