HUGHES DISAPPOINTED WITH THE HOME DEFEAT AND SEND 3 WORDS MESSAGE TO THE PLAYERS
Bantams Boss MARK Hughes was left disappointed by the manner of this afternoon’s 3-1 defeat at home to Walsall.
After going 1-0 up thanks to an Andy Cook penalty 23 minutes in, three Walsall goals condemned Hughes’ men to their first home league defeat of the season.
The Bantams boss was disappointed with his side’s performance in the second half, and in particular the way they defended set-pieces throughout the contest.
“We are obviously disappointed,” he said.
“We looked in good shape at the start of the game and obviously scored the goal.
“Although, we may have been a little bit fortunate with the goal after having another look at it. It (the foul for the penalty) may have been outside the box.
“But what we needed to do after that was retain that lead for longer than the minute or so we kept it for.
“Conceding so early after going in front knocked us a little bit.
“The second half was very poor on our part, going into half-time behind definitely did not help.
“They made it difficult for us and looked to hit us on the counter attack.
“Again, it was another mistake from a set-piece which saw us concede the third.
“We were exceptional last weekend, and nowhere near as good this weekend.”
The Welshman wants to see a reaction from his side as they travel to face Tranmere Rovers in Sky Bet League Two on Tuesday evening.
He has called for his side to become more consistent in maintaining good results and periods of form for longer.
“We know what we need to improve on, and we have to be better on Tuesday,” he added.
“Going through the goals we conceded with the players will be important in making sure we are better.
“It is not just about having good performances here and there, we need a consistent level which is something we need to address.”
