AFTER Bradford City boss relieved some pressure at Rodney Parade, Newport aim to avoid a repeat in Salford this afternoon.

The injured party Exiles had a difficult September and are coming off a 4-1 home loss, but their struggles are nothing in comparison to those of the Ammies.

Because they had a large budget and were play-off semi-finalists the previous season, they are predicted to be in the running for promotion.

Salford, on the other hand, enters this afternoon’s game 21st in the standings following a run of five straight league defeats, the most recent of which being a 3-2 loss to Harrogate.

Manager Neil Wood is feeling the heat and there has been speculation that former Wales boss Ryan Giggs, co-owner at Moor Lane with former Manchester United teammates Gary Neville, Phil Neville, Paul Scholes, Nicky Butt and David Beckham plus Singaporean businessman Peter Lim, could return to the dugout if things don’t improve.

Bradford City coach Mark Hughes takes amazing first touch

Salford are having a tough time but Graham Coughlan is braced for a big test against a club County have never beaten in League Two.
“They are one of the top sides in the division,” said the manager. “Similar to us, they have had a bad month with injuries but Neil Wood doesn’t suddenly become a bad manager overnight.

“You don’t build what he has built, get them to the play-offs and all of a sudden become a bad manager after losing a game or two.

“If they are proper football people, they will back him. They will know what he is going through and what he has done.

“Salford will be there or thereabouts at the end of the season, look at their squad. They have a number of injuries but still have massive quality to call upon.

“They’ve had a bad month but that misfortune won’t last long. We know we will be up against it, they are a top team.”Seven times since the Ammies were promoted to League Two, County has faced Salford.

The Exiles have lost to County five times, and in 2020–21, after County had won 3-0 in the FA Cup, there were two draws.
