‘I suspect’: Phil Hay Now Expects £5m Man To keep Place In Leeds Starting XI Against Southampton

Phil Hay is expecting Glen Kamara to keep his place in Leeds United’s midfield ahead of Archie Gray at Southampton.

Hay was speaking on the latest episode of the Square Ball Podcast, where he previewed Leeds’ trip to Southampton and whether Daniel Farke will make any changes from last weekend.

Leeds produced arguably their best performance of the season on Saturday as they defeated Watford 3-0 at Elland Road, with Kamara having been handed his full debut.

Up until that match, Gray had started every game in league and cup but Farke has already spoken of his desire to manage his minutes due to his age.

Kamara enjoyed an impressive first start for Leeds, completing 92% of his 50 attempted passes and forming a strong partnership alongside Ethan Ampadu in midfield.

Hay ‘suspects’ Kamara will keep his place
Speaking ahead of tomorrow’s lunch time trip to St. Mary’s, Hay expects Kamara to be handed another start ahead of Gray, with another busy week in store for Leeds.

He said: “I suspect he does probably keep Kamara in the team. You would be wary of how to handle Gray, Farke, because he won’t want to put his nose out of the joint on the basis that Gray has played really well so far.

“But he has been making noises over the last few weeks that it wouldn’t be every game for Gray and there would be periods where he was out of the team. They have to look after him physically because he is still so young, even though he looks like a physical machine.”

It would be a wise move to keep Kamara in the team as ultimately, he does not deserve to be dropped on the basis of his performance last week.

With another three-game week ahead, there is no doubt Farke will utilise the squad and hand Gray at least one start, but for this game, Kamara deserves his place in the starting XI.
