22 Year Old Brilliant Young Star Shortlisted By Southgate Ahead Of England Double
According to The Telegraph, Anthony Gordon is on Gareth Southgate’s radar ahead of next month’s international break after an impressive few months for the Newcastle United winger.
The Three Lions take on Australia on Friday 13th October, before facing Sandro Tonali’s Italy for a EURO 2024 qualifier on October 17th.
The report claims that Gordon, Lille’s Angel Gomes and Burnley goalkeeper James Trafford are all under considerations ahead of the upcoming international break, having impressed Southgate at the Under-21 European Championships and over the opening weeks of the 2023/24 season.
Gordon has been outstanding, not only showing pace, much improved fitness levels and a brilliant work ethic, but also delivering goals and assists in the final third.
He assisted Tonali’s goal in our opening day win over Aston Villa, scored against Liverpool, won the penalty that helped us beat Brentford and was involved in two goals at Sheffield United, setting up Sean Longstaff before curling home from outside the box in the second half of our 8-0 win.
The 22-year-old then made a huge impact in Wednesday’s cup victory over Man City, with his energy, intensity and directness causing havoc against the European Champions.
EzoicThe upcoming international break may come too soon for Gordon, but he’ll be in Southgate’s squad sooner rather than later if he can continue performing at such a high level.
