Jorge Sampaoli may be available again; Nottingham Forest was considering hiring him in April. After only 39 games as manager of Flamengo, the Argentine manager is leaving.
The Daily Mail was the source of the information that Evangelos Marinakis was open to hiring the renowned manager. Ultimately, he chose to remain loyal to Steve Cooper, which turned out to be a very wise choice.
The 43-year-old head coach has worked wonders for Forest. He kept the club up with a game to spare and he’s a universally likeable figure of the East Midlands-based club.
At the time, it felt a little bit like idle paper talk. Given that Forest had gone ten games without a victory and that there was obviously fire in addition to smoke, it’s possible that the board was considering their options with Sampaoli on the horizon.
Sampaoli ultimately settled in Brazil with Flamengo. After managing to win 20 of his 39 games, the manager is now reportedly planning to leave, according to Brazilian journalist Julio Miguel Neto.
It’s not clear why the manager is leaving. However, it would appear that he’s already said goodbye to his players and won’t be returning to the top-flight club.
Forest right to stick with Cooper
This would have been an impending catastrophe. Sampaoli doesn’t seem to be a stable person because he hasn’t been in one place for very long in recent years.
The seasoned manager has also never had a position in the Premier League. He would have been a dangerous choice with just a few games remaining in the previous season.
Sampaoli’s hesitation to join Forest was evident. Some sources indicated that he had turned down a transfer to the City Ground in favor of going to Brazil.
Cooper is Forest’s most valuable asset. After bringing in 13 new players in the summer, it’s probable that any talk of a firing will be shelved throughout the 2023–24 season. He deserves more time to make things right.
