JUST IN: A loanee from Leeds United who scored the team’s second-worst outfield rating endured more Premier League misery

Brenden Aaronson, a midfielder on loan from Leeds United, has yet to make an impact for Union Berlin; after serving his punishment at the weekend, he was replaced at halftime.

Last week, during his pre-game news conference, Daniel Farke cracked a lighthearted joke about not having enough eyeballs to manage his improving team and all of Leeds’ loaned players.

There are a few whose progress is of particular interest to fans, but few appear to be having successful sojourns elsewhere.

USMNT: Aaronson shines in Union Berlin debut

Brenden Aaronson struggles again
After relegation, Brenden Aaronson managed to find his way into a Champions League side with Bundesliga outfit Union Berlin.

He made an appearance off the bench in midweek as they lost late on at Real Madrid in their first UCL match of the season, having missed the previous league game at the weekend through suspension.

A home clash with Hoffenheim awaited for Aaronson, as he started the match, only for the visitors to take a 2-0 lead into half-time as debutant Leonardo Bonucci struggled massively.

Aaronson, however, had no chance to redeem himself with his team because he was benched for the second half and replaced by David Datro Fofana, a loanee from Chelsea, who was unable to prevent Union from losing the game 2-0.

Aaronson had a passing accuracy of 93% and one shot (off target), yet according to Sofascore, he was the second poorest outfielder in his team’s starting lineup with a 6.7 rating since he failed to create any chances and lost possession five times.

If Aaronson is going to make it work anywhere, the Bundesliga with Union Berlin is probably one of the better fitting clubs for him.

However, the jump from the Austrian Bundesliga to elite leagues is clearly something that is going to take time for him to acclimatise to.

Not only is the physicality massively different, but the quality required to play as an attacking midfielder is massive.
