Sheffield United’s Coach is eager to make their home advantage count against Newcastle United on Sunday as his side go in search of their first win of the season.

On Sunday, the Blades will welcome Eddie Howe’s team to Bramall Lane while they are still winless in the Premier League.

The Champions League outfit will pose another huge challenge on the back of last week’s trip to high-flying Tottenham.

It’s also the fourth home game of their six Premier League fixtures so far and before a ball had been kicked the Blades boss had highlighted that as an opportunity he was keen to make the most of. However, selection problems as a result of injuries and fitness issues, combined with late arrivals in the transfer window, means Sheffield United have failed to make the most of the fixture list so far.

They have picked up just one point from those three home matches but could well have had more. The Blades boss was forced to field a patched-up side on the opening day against Crystal Palace but only a defensive error prevented them from taking a point against champions Manchester City.

Heckingbottom is keen for that to come on Sunday as he admits the results at Bramall Lane this season have been a big frustration. He said: “I said it before the season but it has not panned out. My one frustration so far this season, this is our fourth game at home in the first six and we haven’t felt like we’ve been in a position to capitalise on that.

“We love playing at Bramall Lane, we love engaging with the fans and making sure the atmosphere is how we want it. We like to perform in a way that energises the crowd and then feed off that. We felt that we haven’t been in a position to capitalise but we are getting closer to that now.

“The window has closed, we know what we have got and we have had a good week working. It’s irrelevant who is in front of us, it’s about how we perform. We have set up to play against Newcastle but the fact that we are at home again now after another week working, we’re excited about the game.”
