Dealing with it is the only option; there is no such thing as ignoring it.
Bobby Pointon is learning that after being thrust into Bradford City’s starting lineup sooner than he would have anticipated.
Amid a pretty frustrating start to the campaign for City, team wise, the individual performances of the teen forward have represented one notable bright spot.
In addition to having talent, Pointon has the appropriate attitude to succeed and manage expectations, according to his teammates.
When asked if playing for his childhood team at the outset of his career may put the 19-year-old under more pressure, veteran midfielder Alex Gilliead responded, “I suppose it does. He is supported by decent people, nevertheless, and is grounded.
“I don’t believe they’ll go too far with it. When you see him out there, you can see he cares about the team and wants to put in a lot of effort for us. We simply want him to continue learning, and the gaffer and Glyn (Hodges) are the best teachers.
“He’s a great lad and a good personality to have around the dressing room.
“He’s only a young lad, but you can tell he wants to learn and get better.
“The big thing about him is that he’s got quality. You see a lot of (young) lads have quality, but don’t have the right attitude. Bobby has got the right attitude.
“If he keeps his head down, we can get him out there for as many games as possible.
He’ll face some challenges, but he has already proven that he possesses the qualities necessary to succeed at this level. We’re all cheering for him inside and hoping he gets going.
Pointon recently made his home debut and full league debut against Grimsby Town in front of the Sky cameras, and he displayed his talent with a man-of-the-match performance.
He also served as an example for other City academy graduates who were trying to break into the first squad throughout this phase.
The young men that came and trained with us last year included him, Dylan (Youmbi), and Harvey (Rowe), according to Gilliead.
They all train full-time with us now and don’t seem out of place. All of them desire success and education. Bobby currently has an opportunity, and he’s taking advantage of it and succeeding.
“Everyone here is excited for him and delighted for him. The essential thing is that he wants to study, and I am confident that he will get going and have a successful career.
