Southampton’s 2023–24 season has gotten off to a rough start after consecutive Championship losses gave them much to consider.
on and Russell Martin got off to a good start. But the Saints currently find themselves in ninth place on the table following back-to-back losses, with nine goals allowed in those two games.
It followed a highly active summer transfer window in which St Mary’s saw many players come and go. Additionally, as is customary for teams vying for promotion, Southampton’s January transfer window may be significant.
Here are three summer transfer targets that the Saints should try to re-sign in January.
Nick Wood
A new center-back might be Southampton’s first priority in January because the Saints have been porous at the back this year. Summer target Nathan Wood might very well resurface on their radar.
Last month, there was a lot of talk about the center-back moving to St Mary’s. He is still employed by Swansea City, despite their dismal season opener.
Although his contract expires in the summer of 2019, the Swans have the option to extend it. They could be able to get a good price for the player in January, but if the Swans are still having trouble, they might decide to keep Wood again.
