Newcastle United are planning to make changes to their starting XI for the Champions League on Tuesday night, and so are AC Milan.
It has been reported that both Sandro Tonali and Alexander Isak are set to start at the San Siro, with Eddie Howe tweaking the team that got back to winning ways in the Premier League on Saturday.
For the Champions League, Howe is turning to his two most expensive players, one of which is returning to the club he left just this summer.
It will be a big night for Tonali, who has been passed fit after an injury scare. He will be back at the San Siro after leaving this summer to join Newcastle for £55million.
He will have a point to prove, while that is also the situation for his former AC Milan teammates following a humiliating 5-1 defeat to Inter in the Milan derby at the weekend.
And that is why AC boss Stefano Pioli is plotting some changes.
AC Milan manager planning at least two changes vs Newcastle
According to Sky Italia, Pioli will make at least two changes to his starting lineup for the game against Newcastle. They state that he could even make three.
The report states that Fikayo Tomori is set to return to the starting XI, having missed Saturday’s Serie A game due to suspension.
Elsewhere, Sky Italia believe that Samuel Chukwueze will ‘almost certainly’ replace Christian Pulisic in attack.
The 25-year-old, who is a former Newcastle transfer target, joined Milan from Chelsea during the summer and has started all four of their games this season.
Despite scoring twice already for his new club, the £58million man looks set to lose his place in the starting XI for the Champions League clash with the Magpies.
If Chukwueze does start, Newcastle’s fullbacks will have a lot of pace to contend with. With the Nigerian on one flank and Rafael Leao on the other, it could be a very difficult night for Kieran Trippier and Dan Burn.
They will have to be at their absolute best at the San Siro, but that goes for every Newcastle player in truth.
