During the international break, Joe Willock was not at Newcastle.
To press his way back into Eddie Howe’s midfield on Tyneside, Joe Willock is speeding up his injury comeback. The 24-year-old Newcastle United star’s recovery from a hamstring injury that kept him out toward the end of last season has been complicated by an Achilles problem.
While his co-stars jetted off across the world and a select few stayed with Howe and his coaching staff, Willock traveled to Barcelona during the international break to work on his fitness. The battle is now on to re-involve the former Arsenal player.
Howe told reporters, “He’s been away; I believe he’s been in Spain the last week; a change of environment for him, a change of focus.” He has done pretty well. He’s suffered a few setbacks, so there has definitely been some disappointment.
He initially suffered a hamstring ailment, and the achilles injury “came out of nowhere.” This injury is an achilles injury. He is such a crucial player for us, therefore we are disappointed for him as well as for us. But all we want is for him to return as soon as we can, in top shape.
