Sandro Tonali’s Agent Reveals Truth About Newcastle Move And Owners’ ‘Project’ After Tears claim

Newcastle United midfielder Sandro Tonali will return to the San Siro to face AC Milan in the Champions League later this month and agent Giuseppe Riso has explained why he left his boyhood club

Sandro Tonali ‘chose’ to join Newcastle United because the Magpies have the ‘most important’ ownership in the world and a ‘clear project’ to become a leading force.

That is according to Giuseppe Riso, Tonali’s agent, who represented his client when the Italy international made the £52m switch from AC Milan to Newcastle earlier this summer. It was a deal that came as a shock to Milan supporters, who had long identified the boyhood Rossoneri fan as a future captain.

There were even bizarre claims in Italy that a tearful Tonali was effectively forced to move to Newcastle against his will. However, Newcastle did their homework early on in the summer and it was made clear to the club that Tonali would be open to the transfer.

Eddie Howe later said the notion Tonali was dragged to St James’ Park was ‘totally misguided’ and the Newcastle boss insisted the 23-year-old was ‘very proud to be here’. Now, ahead of Tonali’s return to the San Siro in the Champions League this month, Riso has explained why the midfielder left Milan in the first place to move to Newcastle.

“The Premier League is a different matter – it is the NBA of football,” Tonali’s representative told Sky Sport 24. “Newcastle have the most important ownership in the world and a clear project to become a protagonist in England and Europe.

“It was an important opportunity and he chose to go. The Premier League is what Serie A was until a few years ago.”
