The latest Newcastle United news as the international break continues
Here are the top Newcastle United stories on Wednesday, September 6th,
Harper hospitalised
Newcastle United hero Steve Harper has been hospitalised after suffering a subarachnoid haemorrhage earlier this week. The former Magpies goalkeeper, who made 157 league appearances in black and white, is said to be awake and recovering well after the incident on Monday.
A subarachnoid haemorrhage is classed as a rare type of stroke caused by bleeding on the surface of the brain. The condition can be fatal but thankfully Harper is awake and receiving care provided by NHS staff.
Newcastle confirmed the heart-breaking news on Wednesday, releasing a statement stating: “Newcastle United is sending love and best wishes to Steve Harper and his family after the club’s Academy director suffered a subarachnoid haemorrhage on Monday.
“The club is pleased to report that Steve is awake and recovering well in hospital. Steve, his family and everyone at Newcastle United extends a heartfelt thank you to NHS staff for the incredible care he is receiving.”

AC Milan ticket info
Full ticketing details for the Magpies’ first Champions League clash with AC Milan have been announced. Eddie Howe takes his side to the San Siro on Tuesday, September 19 and supporters have been eagerly booking flights and accommodation ever since last week’s group stage draw in Monaco.
Tickets for the European clash go on sale on Wednesday, 6th September at 3pm and will start at 65 loyalty points. Due to the expected demand and limited time before the opening group game, loyalty points requirement will be reduced twice daily from Thursday, 7th September at 10:00 and 16:00.
Newcastle season ticket holders who do not meet the away points threshold can enter a ballot which will go live after the final points drop. This will be live for 24 hours. All tickets have been priced at £42.
Injury concern
Elliot Anderson has withdrawn from the Scotland camp ahead of their upcoming clash with Cyprus on Friday. The 20-year-old picked up a knock in training on Tuesday and has returned south of the border.
Anderson will return for treatment in Newcastle in the hope he will be fit in time for the visit of Brentford and the trip to AC Milan after the international break. The youngster will join Sven Botman and Joe Willock, who are both currently stepping up their own recovery at the club’s Benton base.
Anderson’s withdrawal will again bring up the question of his allegiance after the attacker opted to choose Scotland over England following his impressive breakout on Tyneside. Born in Whitley Bay, he has a Scottish grandmother, had played for Scotland at youth level but switched to England Under-19s.

Botman update
Sven Botman is stepping up his injury recovery at the club’s Benton base as he races to be fit for the end of the international break. The Dutchman limped off in the closing stages against Liverpool last month before the Reds snatched a last-gasp winner despite being down to 10 men.
Botman’s inclusion against Brighton just one week later was touch and go but the 23-year-old complained of an adverse effect on his ankle after light training in the build-up to the Amex Stadium clash. The former Lille star is now at the club’s Benton training base attempting to be passed fit for the visit of Brentford next weekend.
Botman shared an update on his social media this week, telling fans he will be ‘back soon’. The centre-back has been joined at the club’s training base by Joe Willock, who suffered his own injury setback in recent weeks. The duo have been putting the hard yards in while their counterparts jet off on international duty, with Willock sharing a video on social media of his Newcastle co-star Botman working up a sweat on an exercise bike.
