Wolves receive record transfer fee as Man City complete signing of Liverpool target
The latest Deadline Day transfer news in the Premier League as Manchester City complete the signing of ex-Liverpool target and Wolves midfielder Matheus Nunes.

Manchester City have completed the Deadline Day signing of Wolverhampton Wanderers midfielder Matheus Nunes on a permanent transfer.

The 25-year-old departs in a £53.2 million deal just a year after signing for the Old Gold for around £42 million. It’s a club-record sale, surpassing the £48 million departure of Rúben Neves.

Man City made Nunes their priority midfield transfer target after a move for West Ham United ace Lucas Paquetá fell through due to investigations into alleged betting breaches.

Pep Guardiola now has his man after a few intense days of negotiations between City and Wanderers, while former Sheffield United loanee Tommy Doyle has moved in the other direction.

Liverpool were interested in signing Nunes for quite a while but they moved on to alternative targets a long time ago. Doyle, on the other hand, is hoping for a Premier League breakthrough.

Nunes, who removed himself from the Wolves setup to secure the move, is delighted. “I’m so happy to be joining Man City, the Champions of Europe and a club I’ve admired for a long time.

“The opportunity to work under Pep Guardiola, one of the greatest managers ever, and alongside some of the best players in the world was something I couldn’t turn down.

“I’ve learned so much during my season at Wolves and I’m excited to continue improving in the Premier League, a division which brings the best out of me.

“I’m really excited to get going, meet the fans and hopefully be a part of plenty more success at City,” Nunes continued via Manchester City’s website.
