Former Bristol City manager emerges as contender for the Charlton Athletic job
Former Bristol City boss Dean Holden has emerged as a potential candidate for the vacant Charlton Athletic job. The League One side are in the hunt for a new boss to replace Ben Garner.
According to talkSPORT reporter Alex Crook on Twitter (see tweet below), Holden is among the ‘favourites’ for the Addicks vacancy. He has been out of the game since departing from his coaching role at Championship side Stoke City earlier this season.
Holden, 43, joined Bristol City back in 2016 and initially worked as their number two under Lee Johnson. Prior to his move to Ashton Gate, he’d coached at both Oldham Athletic and Walsall in the Football League.
He eventually took over as manager of the Robins in 2020 after impressing in caretaker charge but lasted only seven months in the post. The Mancunian won 43.% of games in charge before his exit.
Charlton could now throw him a managerial lifeline in League One as they scour the market for a replacement for former Bristol Rovers head coach Ben Garner. It has been a poor season for the London club so far and they find themselves down in 17th position in the table.
Holden has recently held talks with both Brentford and Sheffield United over potential roles for him, as per a report by the Daily Mail, so will have a decision to make on his next move in the game.
