Nottingham Forest now rejected by £200,000-a-week Tottenham player

Tottenham midfielder Tanguy Ndombele has rejected the chance of a Premier League reprieve with Nottingham Forest. The Reds are busy trying to strengthen their team, with a defensive midfielder in their sights.

According to RMC Sport, the French midfielder was the subject of a bid from Forest ahead of the transfer window closing next week. The Reds wanted to take him on loan and include a mandatory clause to buy him next summer.

The player wasn’t overly keen though and now the Tottenham player’s future looks uncertain once again. Ange Postecoglou is willing to get him out of the North London club; with Galatasaray and Rennes still in the mix to sign him.

Forest have been linked with a number of players this summer. In terms of defensive midfielders, there can’t be many in the world of football who haven’t been mentioned in the same breath as Forest at some point since last season finished.

Ndombele is the latest name and he might have proved a decent signing. At 26-years-old, he seems to fit the profile of a player that Forest are looking at this summer and he’s got bags of experience.

Last season, he made 40 appearances for Napoli in Serie A. The midfielder helped the team stun their rivals and claim the league title ahead of the likes of Milan, Roma and Juventus.

His time at Tottenham has been hit-and-miss at best. He’s made 91 appearances for the club and back in September 2020, Jose Mourinho called the midfielder ‘phenomenal’ after Spurs had defeated Chelsea.

The man with seven caps for France looks certain to leave Tottenham. He’s not been included in the squad for the opening two games of the Premier League campaign.

Ndombele might have proved very useful for Forest. He has experience and at 26-years-old, there is still some time for him to achieve great things in the game.

His wages might have been problematic. It’s thought that he earns £200,000-a-week at Tottenham. It’s fair to say that it’s unlikely that he will get that with his next club.

Forest will go back to the drawing board now. It will be fascinating to see who the club do manage to get over the line when it comes to their defensive midfield recruitment drive.

Hopefully, at least one can get over the line before the deadline on Friday week. This latest report, however, suggests that it won’t be Ndombele.
