Renato Veiga, a defensive midfielder for Sporting Lisbon, is the target of a fierce competition between Burnley and FC Basel this summer.
Since Burnley was promoted to the Premier League at the end of the previous season, Vincent Kompany has added eleven new players to his roster.
The Burnley manager is still pressing for more players, though, in an effort to assemble a team that can compete in the Premier League.
Veiga of Sporting Lisbon has reportedly emerged as a top target for Kompany as he searches for further midfield reinforcements.
According to the German publication Fussball Transfers, Burnley has made proposals to both Sporting Lisbon and the 20-year-old midfielder.
The Portuguese powerhouses will receive the £5.5 million bid from the Clarets over the course of three payments.
FC Basel, who are also attempting to sign the teenage midfielder, are putting strong competition on Burnley.
The freshly promoted Premier League team has also extended a five-year contract to Veiga, but the Swiss are only willing to sign a four-year agreement.
