Norwich City: Jamal Lewis joins Watford on season long loan
Former Norwich City academy graduate is set for a Carrow Road return after joining Watford on a season-long loan.
Lewis was officially confirmed as a Watford player on Thursday evening after prolonged efforts to bring the left-back to Vicarage Road with the deal including an option to buy next summer.
The 25-year-old has struggled for consistent first-team football at Newcastle United under Eddie Howe, making just four appearances in all competitions for the Magpies last season.
Norwich sold Lewis to Newcastle back in 2020 for an initial fee of £15million but injuries have prevented his progression and limited his game time since his big-money move to the North East.
Lewis was a regular in his first campaign on Tyneside, making 24 appearances but has struggled for game time in the subsequent seasons thereafter – making fewer than 10 top-flight appearances in the last two years.
Watford have been leading the race to sign the Northern Irish international this summer in their pursuit of an extra left-back option, with James Morris their only option.
Lewis has become Watford’s fourth signing of the summer after Rhys Healey, Tom Ince and Jake Livermore.
A City academy graduate, Lewis made 100 appearances during his time at the club and is set for a reunion against his former club when Valerien Ismael’s side arrive to Carrow Road in February.
