‘Next few days’: PL manager hints that his ‘terrific’ player is now going to join Leeds

Eddie Howe has confirmed Karl Darlow’s move to Leeds United could be wrapped up in the ‘next few days’.

Howe was speaking in an interview with Chronicle Live out in Newcastle’s pre-season tour of the USA, where he provided an update on a number of outgoings at St. James’ Park.

Darlow is expected to be one of those who depart in the coming days, with Fabrizio Romano confirming a verbal agreement has been reached between Leeds and Newcastle.

The 32-year-old is now expected to fly back from the States shortly so he can undergo a medical ahead of his proposed switch to Elland Road.

It is unclear what sort of fee Leeds will be paying to sign Darlow but Sky Sports journalist Keith Downie has confirmed it won’t be in the millions.

After providing a timeline on when Darlow’s move may go through, Howe spoke of what an ‘incredible servant’ he has been to the club, in what is a good sign for Leeds.

He said: “Karl is a possible one that might happen in the next few days. Karl will certainly go with our best wishes. He has been an incredible servant to the football club. We value him but we can’t carry a team of five goalkeepers.”

Darlow will bring a plethora of experience to Leeds once his arrival is officially confirmed, with over 200 appearances across England’s top two tiers during his career.

It wasn’t too long ago Darlow was reportedly on the cusp of an England call-up under Steve Bruce at Newcastle, who described him as ‘terrific’ during his time as the Magpies’ number one.

Leeds will be hoping he can bring that sort of form with him to Elland Road to provide a far more assured presence between the sticks.
