SUNDERLAND COMPLETE SIGNING OF MIDFIELDER DEAR
By Daniel Pentland / July 24, 2023
Sunderland have completed the signing of midfielder Jenna Dear.
The Lady Black Cats announced the news this evening via a post on their official club website.
Dear joins Sunderland following a spell playing her football in France with Dijon. The player made 29 appearances for the club in the D1 Arkema in which she scored three goals.
The midfielder has previously played in the Barclays Women’s Championship with former clubs Watford, Everton and Sheffield FC. She has not played her football in England since the 2017/2018 season. Dear has spent the last five years building her experience at the top level in both Norway and France.
After securing Dear’s services, Sunderland manager Melanie Reay said “I am delighted to be reunited with a player who I thought so highly of when I headed up England under-23s. Jenna is an accomplished footballer, and her quality and experience can only benefit our midfield unit.”
Dear becomes Sunderland’s fourth signing of the summer transfer window following the recent additions of Mary McAteer, Katie Kitching and Natasha Fenton.
Manager Reay has put together a solid group of players ahead of the new season. While the core is made up of members of the 2022/2023 side, Reay’s new additions have been impressive. There could be space for a couple more fresh faces before the new season kicks-off next month.
