Leeds United dealt blow to sign new left-back target with club not willing to sell – Report
brilliant
Leeds United’s chances of signing reported left-back target Joaquin Piquerez from Brazilian club Palmeiras have been dealt a blow with his club not willing to let him leave.
With Leeds preparing for a pre-season friendly shortly against Monaco in York, the club have only one fresh face in the doors in the shape of Ethan Ampadu.
A whole lot more signings are needed if Daniel Farke is to consider his side totally ready for a gruelling 46-game season.
“Proposals should arrive in the next few days” for the 24-year-old defender currently looking to continue impressing his Uruguay national team manager Marcelo Bielsa.
The defender has been known to also play in midfield, suggesting he could be a smart fit for Farke’s system, given indications he would want his left-back to be able to invert and operate in the middle of midfield.
What’s the latest?
This has now relayed by Torcedores.com, who share that Leeds are keen on the defender this summer to strengthen their squad in the Championship.
However, it comes with the caveat that his club are not willing to entertain Piquerez leaving the club this summer.
“In the same way as his defense colleagues, left-back Joaquin Piquerez should remain at the club. Despite Leeds United’s endeavour to hire the Uruguayan player, the board discards the sale of any of its holders.”
Would Edouard Michut be a good signing?
Piqeurez, profile-wise looks like a great fit for what we need from our left-back, given his quality to play in midfield too.
We need players at full-back on either side that are good enough to build-up in possession, and he is just that.
The fact he’s playing under Bielsa in the Uruguay side tells you one very important thing too, that he’s more than fit enough to compete.
Perhaps we can test the waters with a bid here.
