Brighton Confirmed Move Of Another Starlet

Brighton defender James Furlong is a loan target for a number of Championship and League One clubs, sources have told Football Insider.

The left-back, 21, is highly regarded at Brighton and signed a new deal at the Amex Stadium earlier this summer.

Brighton believe Furlong would benefit by going out on loan again for the upcoming new season after a temporary spell at Motherwell in the second half of last season.

They will invite loan offers from clubs in the English second and third tiers.

Furlong made 16 appearances for Motherwell in his half-season spell at the club last term, notching three assists.

Before that, he was a regular for Brighton’s Under-21 side in Premier League 2 competition – and has racked up 75 total appearances for the Seagulls’ youth sides.

Furlong was also named on the bench for a home clash with Chelsea in the Premier League last term – and even made his debut with a five-minute cameo against Forest Green in the League Cup.

BrightonThe 21-year-old, who is a Republic of Ireland Under-21 international, signed a contract running until 2025 earlier this month.

He will be hoping to become the latest Brighton youngster to make the grade in the first team.

Evan Ferguson has established himself as one of the Premier League’s most exciting talents after coming over to the club from Ireland in similar circumstances to Furlong.

Meanwhile, Lewis Dunk, Solly March, Robert Sanchez, Steven Alzate and Aaron Connolly have all come through the Seagulls’ youth system.

Brighton kick off their Premier League campaign against Luton Town on 6 August.
