Dennis only started six league matches, scoring two goals in 19 appearances, as Forest ensured their survival in the top flight. Reports in Italy now claim Serie A side Atalanta “are thinking” about Dennis as they plot summer transfers.

Dennis has already been told he “doesn’t fit” Forest’s style of play under manager Steve Cooper.

Former Forest striker Nigel Jemson told the Garibaldi Red podcast live show this summer: “He doesn’t fit.

“Dennis, on his day he’s unplayable, but even then he doesn’t know what he’s doing. For me, the club are going to move on and he’ll be surplus to requirements.

“We’re going to get better players in and the club are moving forwards.”

Fellow panellist, BT Sport commentator Darren Fletcher, believes Dennis has more to offer.
